At Good Books Bridport at the book signing. More conventional wine and nibbles, tea and biscuits. Enjoyed reading a bit of the book. Well, at least my friends like it it seems! All reviews welcome…
Many thanks to Jo O’Farrell and the volunteers at Good Books Bridport.
Tina and I have just returned from a wonderful few days in Middleton, Leeds where we lived and worked in the 1980s. Much has changed – most, it seems, for the better. The Middleton Arms that features in The Kicking Tree has been replaced by a much more universally useful supermarket! Huge estates of modern housing have been built and new facilities added.
There are still many familiar faces in the congregations of St Cross and St Mary’s Middleton and we had a successful and very enjoyable book launch on Thursday, 19th competing with England v Uruguay. Those who preferred to attend the pie and pea supper rather than watch the match probably had the better time. At least it was more fun – and far less painful.
With Stephen Makinson who grew up in Middleton
The Summer Fair was an enormous success and the books went well too. I was talking to people and selling books throughout the day.
Thank you Middleton for being such an inspiration and so very supportive.
I have heard from the publishers of The Kicking Tree (Matador) that I should have printed copies delivered to me during the first week of June. The official publication date is 28th June.
If you would like copy early and post free in the UK, then contact me (Trevor Stubbs) through this website or via http://www.whitegatesadventures.com.
I have three book signings lined up for the launch of The Kicking Tree
- LEEDS. St Cross Parish Room, Middleton Park Road (corner of Acre Road), LS10 4HT. Thursday, 19th June at 7.30 pm. The author is offering a pie & pea supper but if you want to partake of the supper you will need to book either through the church or with me via this blog. Otherwise just turn up for a cup of tea and a bun. I will also be at the St Cross Summer Fair on Saturday, 21st June.
- BRIDPORT. Good Books, St. Mary’s Old School, Gundry Lane, Bridport, Dorset, DT6 3RL. Saturday, 28th June from 10 am. to 4 pm. The author will do presentations at 10.30 am. and 2 pm.
- BRISTOL/BATH. @One Youth & Community Centre, 1 Park Road, Keynsham, Bristol, BS31 2BL. Tuesday, 1st July between 2 pm. and 4 pm. The author will do a presentation at 2.30 pm.
These are open to all comers.
If anyone would like a presentation in their own neck of the woods then I am open to invitations!
Just been contacted by Matador to say that unfortunately the process of publication is unlikely to be completed by 28th May as previously announced. The new date is 28th June because publication dates are always the 28th of the month. However, we strongly expect the books to be completed before then – at least in time for the launch in Middleton, Leeds on Thursday, 19th June. Just say a pray or two!
I am seeking Beta-Readers for the sequel to The Kicking Tree . It is called Ultimate Justice and it is to be the second book in the White Gates Adventure Series.I know that most of you won’t have read The Kicking Tree yet but I am interested in how possible it is to read the sequel without the first book among other things.
You can check out what a beta-reader does here on Wikipedia. Beta-readers are non-professional and do this because they enjoy reading and do it out of the goodness of their hearts! (In any case it is very unlikely that my work will ever make a profit!)
I will send each beta reader a pdf copy of the text together with a few tips on what would be useful to me.
